Do Not Sell or Share My Information

The short version: PartyLine has never sold any data, and sells none today. We intend to sell one thing in the future — district-level aggregate figures, never individual answers — and you can keep your answers out of those figures right now, with one switch you operate yourself. This page tells you where the switch is and what happens when you use it.

What PartyLine sells today

Nothing. No data of any kind has been sold, licensed, or handed to anyone in exchange for money, and no payment method can be charged for data through PartyLine. If you have read a sentence anywhere on this site that made it sound as though sales were already happening, that sentence was wrong, and it has been corrected.

We also do not run advertising, we do not use tracking cookies, and we do not sell or rent email addresses. There is no advertising network embedded in these pages.

What we intend to sell

One product, described here before it exists: district-level aggregate statistics, offered to political campaigns, advocacy organizations, researchers and media outlets. We are open about wanting this, and about why. A campaign that can see what the voters in a district actually care about is a campaign that can answer to them, and a voter is better off in a district whose candidates know that.

Every figure is a count or an average over a whole district. It is published only where at least 100 verified respondents in that district have answered, so no figure is ever about a small enough group to point at a person.
No name, email address, street address, or account identifier is part of it, and none is ever sent alongside it.
A figure describes the PartyLine users in a district who chose to answer. It is not a poll of the district, not a forecast, and we say so wherever such a figure appears.

Before the first sale we will change the Privacy Policy to say that sales have begun, and post a notice on the site. Until you see that, everything on this page about selling is a statement of intent.

What we will never sell or share

Your individual survey answers, to anyone, for any price.
Your individual sample-ballot marks. These are a private worksheet; they are never shown to another user and never attributed to you.
Your email address or any other contact information.
Anything from a district with fewer than 100 verified responses, and no figure broken down by party affiliation or demographic characteristics.

Your controls

Four of them. The first is the one to use; the others exist because not everyone has an account, and because some people would rather delete than adjust.

1. The switch in your account settings

Sign in, open Account settings on the dashboard, and turn off “Include my answers in district aggregates”. It takes effect immediately — the next figure computed for your district is computed without you — and the same screen always shows which state you are in, so you never have to wonder whether it worked. Turning it off costs you nothing: every feature of PartyLine keeps working exactly as before.

2. Global Privacy Control, if your browser sends it

Some browsers and privacy extensions send a Global Privacy Control signal on every request. We read it. If we see it, we opt you out of aggregation without your asking, and the account settings screen tells you that we honored it rather than leaving you to guess. If your browser does not send the signal, nothing happens and we do not read anything into its absence.

3. Email us, with or without an account

Write to privacy@mypartyline.org. If you have an account, write from the address on it. If you used PartyLine without an account, tell us the approximate date you took the survey, your state, and your ZIP code, so we can find the response. We aim to acknowledge every request within 10 business days and to finish it within 45 days, and we write to you if we need longer. There is no charge, we will not ask you to create an account to make a request, and nothing about your use of PartyLine changes because you made one.

4. Delete your account

On the same Account settings screen, “Delete account” removes your account, your survey responses and your ballot marks. Nothing of yours can enter a future aggregate after that, because there is nothing left to aggregate. This cannot be undone.

One honest limit, on all four: a figure that has already been published cannot be un-published. An aggregate holds no individual information, so there is nothing of yours inside it to take back out. What opting out does is keep you out of every figure we publish or offer for sale that is computed from that moment on.

And one limit that is not about publishing at all, so that it is not a surprise later: we still keep internal counts of how many people use PartyLine — surveys completed, accounts created, people who came back. Those are headcounts. They hold no answers, no district and nothing that identifies you, they are not the district figures we publish, and they are not what a buyer would ever be offered.

Why this page exists

Because we intend to sell aggregate data one day, and the honest time to hand people the off switch is before the first sale, not after it. Everything on this page is a commitment we are making voluntarily. We are not claiming that any particular privacy statute applies to PartyLine today, and we would rather not pretend to a legal status we do not have: PartyLine has no revenue from data and has made no sale.

If we ever do fall under one of those laws, these controls are already built and already working, and we will say so here.
